American Arts Enter the World Stage

Carol's_Ragtime_Band_1We begin the second semester of our America’s Artistic Legacy course with a general discussion of American arts entering the world stage.

The video below is a supplement to the course and concerns Unit 13. The second semester of the course in American music and art covers the history of music and culture from the Civil War forward. The full curriculum with recorded videos, assignments, art galleries, quizzes, and more is offered on this site through the Circle of Scholars. The course is designed for students in high school, upper middle school, homeschool, classical education, and Christian education. It is also appropriate for adults with an interest in the topic.

In the late 19th century, the influence of American Arts increases as Americans begin to visit Europe in greater numbers, prompting works like Mark Twain’s Innocents Abroad, while European arts and immigrants pour onto America’s shores.
